| Sensei Gregory Poretz began his study of Danzan Ryu in 1973 at the Granada Hills Jujitsu Kai under Sensei’s Richard and Eric Pietrelli. The Dojo would see several instructors over the years allowing Gregory to experience several different approaches to teaching. Sensei began assistant teaching at the Granada Hills Dojo in the early 80’s, bringing several teams to national level competition.
Sensei Poretz was awarded his Shodan (first degree black belt) in 1998 by the American Judo and Jujitsu Federation. (Yes, this is an unusually long time before reaching black belt). In addition to his continuing studies of Danzan Ryu he is a graduate of the AJJF Danzan Ryu Seifukujutsu Institute certified in Okazaki Restorative Massage. Gregory is also a graduate of the Santa Monica School of Massage. Sensei Poretz has also explored the arts of Hwa Rang Do, Kung Fu, and Kempo Karate. He is currently the student of Professor Edward Shatzen (Godan). Sensei Poretz can also be recognized in Cage 2, Birth of a Nation, Hard Justice, and “So You Want to be in Pictures,” the films boast a-direct-to-video publication with viewers numbering in the dozens. After his stunning success in film Sensei Poretz came to his senses and retired from the spotlight. After a series of troubling incidents in the local community Gregory began to teach self-defense arts to a small group of neighborhood children, this group has blossomed into a traditional jujitsu dojo (Training Hall) offering self-defense and self improvement lessons to adults and children. The Kenshokan Martial Arts Academy is the culmination of a life long dream to share the life enhancing properties of Danzan Ryu Jujitsu in a spirit of family, friendship and kokua ! |
